Public forum: One members of the public were present.
One member of the public was present to ask why the 30mph speed limit still has not be put in place.
District Councillor Tom Ashton was present and updated the Parish Council and members of the public on the latest position regarding the long running request for a 30mph speed limit through the village.
The original proposal for a 30mph limit was approved by the Planning & Regulation Committee; however, the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership appealed this decision, arguing instead for a 40mph limit based on historic speed data. Due to constitutional arrangements, the matter then passed to the Council Leader for final determination. The Leader favoured a 40mph limit, and a 40mph proposal was subsequently promoted despite strong local expectations of a 30mph limit.
The issue has since returned to the Planning & Regulation Committee on multiple occasions, with the Road Safety Partnership continuing to oppose a 30mph limit. All local representatives — including County Councillor Matthews and parish councillors — remain firmly supportive of a 30mph limit on safety grounds, noting vulnerable residents and reports of vehicles travelling at very high speeds. Concern was expressed about entering another winter period without a clear decision.
District Councillor Ashton has agreed to write to the Chief Executive, setting out the history of the matter, the community’s safety concerns, and requesting a clear and timely resolution.
Member of the public left the meeting 19:14
He also updated on the reorganisation, plus planning applications for fewer than 10 dwellings will no longer be considered by committee and will instead be determined by officers under delegated powers. Very large schemes may be escalated to regional level and determined by a directly elected mayor.
